This is Beswicks beautiful dun Highland Pony “Mackionneach”designed by Arthur Gredington and in the Series ‘Mountain and Moorland Ponies.
He stands at 7.25 inches 18.4 cm and is in a gloss dun coloured finish.He was produced only between 1961-1989.He is an older earlier version with good muscle tone facial details and shaded hooves.He does have some light overall crazing consistent with his age.
Highland ponies are one of the larger and heavier pony breeds- they should not exceed 14.2 hh and frequently are dun with a dark eel stripe down their back,with silky fine hair on their legs.
He is a member of the ‘Mountain and Moorland’ Series which contains the nine distinctive breeds of pony that have inhabited the British Isles for centuries.Each particular pony was chosen because it was a multi champion and is a true representation of its particular breed.
The Highland was a favoured breed of the Late Queen Elizabeth 2nd and used to carry the deer down from the Scottish hills- being strong ,study and sure footed.
