This excellent example of a Melba Ware small Shire Horse is a hallmark of the mid-20th-century British pottery boom.She was produced by H. A. Wain and Sons Ltd at the Melba Works in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent.

The line was created by H. A. Wain and Sons, established in 1937 by Horace Wain.

While they began making general animal models earlier, the company became particularly noted for their horse and dog figurines by the late 1960s.

The company faced financial difficulties in the early 1980s and went into liquidation in September 1982.

Most Shire horse models feature a high-gloss finish, often in brown or dapple grey, and frequently include detailed harnesses .

Figures were produced in small, medium, and large sizes- this particular one stands 6.5 inches(16 cm) tall.

Authentic pieces (such as this one !)are marked on the belly with a stamped "Melba Ware" logo and a distinctive green label.

Shes also in excellent vintage condition -no doubt cabinet stored all her life!
